In Hungary, the Limes (Ripa pannonica) represented the northern forntiers of the Pannonia province stretching from Klosterneuburg (Austria) to Belgrade (Serbia), and it’s measured approximately 400 km in Hungarian territory. It was one of the most important frontiers of the Empire, a fact proven by the heavy military presence, starting with A.D. I-st century.

Sites: Lussonium, Aquincum, Intercisa, Altinum, Matrica, Campona.

In 2007 the Ministries of Culture in Slovakia and Hungary decided to initiate the nomination dossiers for their parts of Limes to be inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage.
